Students interested in pursuing a M.S. or Ph.D. degree in structural engineering are encouraged to contact any of the faculty.

Structural engineering is one of the many disciplines of Civil Engineering.  Structural engineering focuses on the response of structures to applied loads.  The University of Arkansas has an active research program in several areas of structural engineering, structural health monitoring, field instrumentation, bond and development length of prestressing strand, concrete materials and mixture proportioning, numerical modeling, wind engineering, airport safety, and airport runway/aircraft compatibility.

The structural engineering facilities at the University of Arkansas include a 15 ft. by 30 ft. bridge model which is used to assess bridge damage, equipment necessary for field instrumentation, a well equipped concrete materials laboratory, facilities to fabricate and test small prestressed beams, and a computational mechanics laboratory.  The graduate course work is oriented toward developing an understanding of the fundamental aspects of structural behavior/design and application of engineering concepts to structural design.
